Question by Derrick: My dads a drunk and not really for sure what to do?
I’m 17 and he usually drinks only on the weekends, but he gets completely wasted. My step mom just now told me this and he’s been doing it for about a year and a half now. Sometimes he’ll miss work to drink and he’s already gotten wrote up for missing to many days. My dad has always told me that they are his sleeping peels.

He’s usually not mean when he’s drunk and laughs at everything. He falls down and hurts himself and i can’t get him up. My step mom is usually at work and it’s just me and him and it’s really starting to get to me. I’ve been getting angry a lot faster with him now on homework or just anything. My dad means the world to me, and i can’t really go to anyone.
I’ve tried talking to him about it. The first 30 min. was trying to get him to admit he was drinking. Then he said he would quit and that was it. Now when i bring it up every week he’ll die he’s doing it again.

You cannot change a person, much more your dad. I’m sure, he knows what he is doing, but bcoz of his own reasons, I guess that’s why he can’t sleep. Try to be more open to him, let him open up his problems and thoughts to you. Maybe he feels bad at work, he failed at something or just have problems that is troubling him for a long time or there are many other reasons. Try to let him share it with you, let him spill it out, that way, maybe he’ll feel more better relaxed and can start to sleep without drinking. You know, it’s all in the mind. You are young but it’s good that you are acting sensibly and maturely. Don’t worry, al will be well, talk things out again when he is in a good mood.
