A residential drug treatment center is a round the clock operational facility that is staffed with medical personnel including mental health professionals. Treatments can include behavioral therapy, drug rehabilitation medication, and psychological intervention. Patients are evaluated upon entering a facility and placed under a special diet. Often times, patients have positive experiences and outcomes after spending time at these places. If patients do go back to their old habits of using drugs, they usually use less frequently in fewer amounts than before treatment. If possible, most residential centers do not use drugs to help addicts overcome substance abuse. As much as possible non-drug therapies are applied. Focus is more on a psychological approach.

Most patients that end up at these rehab centers tend to be socially impaired or have been involved in criminal activities. Many have acquired mental health disorders due to years of substance abuse. Professional rehab specialists at residential centers are trained to repair these deficiencies and problems in a supportive and non-medicinal way. Sometimes the community gets involved in treatment remedies.
Anyone who has addiction to illegal substances can go to a residential drug treatment center for assistance and rehabilitation. Many former patients also become counselors for patients who arrive after them and offer drug addiction treatment. These facilities provide a very supportive role in recovering addicts and those who still have to overcome their addiction to drugs.
